Happy Monday Everyone!
Today I wanted to give you guys a little life update since I’ve been M.I.A. from the blog for a little over two months now! Two months ago I posted a similar blog post to this titled “I’m Back!” You can read that here. In that post, I explained why I’ve been slacking on blog posts/what I’ve been up to! I thought after posting that I was going to get back on my blogging game, but I was wrong lol.
☆First things first, I re-designed my blog!☆
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now you probably noticed that I have switched up my theme a few times lol. But, I finally found a theme that I am in love with and it feels good to have a fresh new website as I start a new chapter in my life soon…school/moving out. We’ll touch more on that soon.😉
I love how my new blog theme is super clean and minimalistic! If any of you are interested in starting a blog you should all check out Munich Paris Studios on Etsy. Julie, the shop owner, is so nice and very quick to respond to your problems. I would recommend this theme to anyone!
I don’t know why but ever since March I’ve been in this weird creative rut and I haven’t had the motivation to write blog posts. Yes, I was still posting on Instagram but I didn’t feel good about my account.
Personally, I feel kind of burnt out of the whole “Instagram influencer” thing. I don’t know if it’s because so many people are doing it now that everyone’s feed all looks the same or if it’s because I’m tired of trying so hard on an app that used to just be for fun. Or both? lol.
With that all being said, these past few months I’ve been so indecisive about what to do with blogging/influencing, Do I quit? Do I go M.I.A.? Do I keep using presets or are they too much? All of these thoughts going on in my head and I finally figured out what to do. I know some of you are probably like, “Lex it’s just an app” and I totally get that but I somehow feel attached to this app and creating a cohesive feed since I’ve been taking my Instagram game “serious” for about a year and a half now.
Another reason why I’ve been feeling “eh” lately is because I often find myself getting caught up in the comparison game.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by a social media app
I’ll be on Instagram just scrolling up and down and find myself thinking “How come my pictures don’t get that many likes?” or “Wow I wish I had ___ ” Have you ever felt like that? When I find myself getting to that negative headspace I have to log off for the day or else I’ll sit there for hours comparing myself. Social Media can be toxic sometimes if you get too caught up in the numbers or another person’s features/page.
There’s only one of you and one of me on this planet, so we should all learn to embrace our individuality.❤️
So what have I decided to do with Instagram and Blogging?
Keep reading to find out!
Something that I have been trying to work on these past couple of months is living more in the moment and to not get caught up in the comparison game. I also came to the conclusion that I’m just going to post whatever I want on Instagram, whenever I want. I’ll stick to presets for now because I do like the look of every picture having the same tones, but I’m not going to go out of my way to create a perfectly curated Instagram feed. Let’s be real no one’s life is perfect. So screw the algorithm and not getting “enough” likes or comments. Instagram is supposed to be an app where everyone can have fun and express themselves. I get that it’s a business for many people but “influencing” is not something I see myself doing for the long run! I want to have a full-time job working in the entertainment industry! Something that I am super passionate about. Instagram is just a side hobby for me. Now, for those who can make a living off of “influencing,” I give so many props to them and I think it’s awesome to see what people can do on the app.
Always remember that…
☆ Other things happening in my life right now ☆
A few other things that have been going on in my life is that I’ve been getting ready to move out and start a new chapter of my life in Orange County. I am so excited to be starting school at Chapman University in the fall because I worked so hard to get into my dream school as a transfer student. I’ve been thinking of doing a blog post of my journey as a transfer student. I know there’s a negative stigma surrounding community college when there shouldn’t be…it was one of the smartest decisions I’ve made in my life.:) So stay tuned for that!
I recently just signed up for my classes for the fall semester and I’m excited to finally be getting more into my major. Community college was just two years of getting the GE’s out of the way lol! I’m also looking into studying abroad and finding an internship in LA this fall. So that’s exciting! I can’t wait to share my journey with you all!
Other than school-related things I’ve just been enjoying the summer with my friends by exploring places that I’ve never been to in my hometown and going to MANY concerts. If you follow me on Instagram you would know that Taylor and I just went to THREE Shawn Mendes concerts lol (there will be a blog post on that too).
…we may or may not be going to one more show but you’ll just have to wait and see😉
Today’s blog post was a long one but I hope you guys enjoyed it and got to see a little more insight into my life. It felt really good to express my thoughts on how I’ve been feeling about Instagram lately. Let me know your thoughts about the ‘gram too. I’m curious!
P.S. Stay tuned for college-related blog posts!
